PROJECT DETAILS

Category: Graphic Design

Client: BROWARD COUNTY LIBRARY

Year: 2019

During a meeting with the committee appointed to discuss the logistics of designing the physical space of FLLibrary, a pop-up library that will between Terminal 3 and 4 at the Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport, an idea was put forward to use imagery and text I had created as a wall treatment within the space. After design rates were quoted by the printing company for the project it was determined that the design would be done in-house.

Considering the size of the walls I created the design at half scale to print the final wall cling at two hundred percent. I created a vector based fill in Adobe Illustrator and applied it with low opacity over the navy blue background. I then had to define my search parameters within the stock footage site to search out vertically shot pictures at maximum resolution. Selecting full body images that depicted people watching movies or listening to music on digital devices, I made sure they met a specific criteria. In the images the people's clothing and style needed to be current while the images needed to be fun and impactful. I also was intent on selecting images that represented a good cross-section of ages and ethnicities making sure that a number of the images had eyes looking forward to connect with the viewer as they walked by. There was also consideration to face the people on the outside of the design looking inwards.

The picture above is from the opening ceremony for the FLLibrary that occured on June 12, 2019 and the second image is of the original artwork.
